Took a while, but finally feeling good about my gold IRA

I know a lot of people here are probably already seasoned gold investors, but I just wanted to share a little bit about finally feeling like I made a good decision with my gold IRA. I opened it a few years ago, probably around late 2020 or early 2021, with about $30k. At the time, I was pretty nervous. Being a teacher in Columbus, OH, every dollar feels like a big deal, and diverting that much from my regular retirement account felt like a massive risk, especially with all the talk about inflation back then.
For a while, honestly, it felt like it was just… sitting there. I wasn't seeing those instant massive gains you sometimes hear about with other investments, and there were definitely moments of doubt. My friends were talking about their tech stocks, and I was just looking at my gold balance, wondering if I'd made a mistake. But I kept reminding myself that this was for long-term protection, not a get-rich-quick scheme.
Now, seeing how things are going with the economy, the stock market being so volatile, and just general global uncertainty, I’m actually really relieved. My gold IRA, which is now sitting closer to $45k, feels like such a stable anchor in my portfolio. It's not a huge leap, but it’s consistent, and it hasn't dipped like some of my other holdings have. It’s comforting to know that a good chunk of my retirement savings is in something tangible and historically resilient.
Has anyone else had a similar experience where it took a while for their gold investment to really "click" for them? What was that turning point for you? I’m still learning a ton and always open to advice on how to manage this going forward, especially as my portfolio grows.
