This Platinum IRA is paying off - wish I diversified sooner!

Honestly feeling pretty chuffed right now. I've been a pretty staunch believer in diversifying my portfolio for years, as any good doctor with half a brain should, especially with the crazy economic rollercoaster we've been on. For a long time, though, my focus was primarily on stocks, real estate, and a chunk of bonds. Gold was always there in the back of my mind, but I finally pulled the trigger on a Gold IRA about seven years ago and put a decent portion of my retirement savings into it – probably around $200k at the time, which was a good chunk of my then-$600k portfolio. Since then, I've steadily added to it, especially when the market seemed a bit…overheated.
My decision to lean into precious metals really felt like a gut call a lot of the time, especially living here in Boston where everyone’s talking tech and venture capital. Friends and colleagues would often raise an eyebrow, asking if I was "preparing for the apocalypse" or something silly. But looking at the numbers now, my initial Gold IRA investment, plus the subsequent additions, has seen a really healthy appreciation. I haven't done a full recalibration of my entire portfolio yet, but that metals portion is definitely outperforming a lot of my other, more "traditional" assets over the same period. It's not just about guarding against inflation anymore; it's genuinely contributing to growth.
The recent market volatility has just solidified my conviction. While some of my tech stocks have been taking a bit of a beating, my precious metals holdings have been a rock. It’s given me a real sense of security, knowing that a significant portion of my wealth isn't tied directly to the whims of the stock market. I’m thinking about rebalancing again in the next few months, maybe even increasing my allocation further. For those of you on the fence, or just starting to look into precious metals, what were your biggest hesitations, and what finally pushed you over the edge?
