    • Hey everyone, curious about others' experiences with 401k to Gold/Platinum IRA rollovers, especially regarding the timeline.
    • I just initiated a direct rollover from my old military 401k into a Platinum IRA.
    • We're talking about a decent chunk of change, about $600k, and frankly, I'm a little antsy about how long this is going to take.

Hey everyone, curious about others' experiences with 401k to Gold/Platinum IRA rollovers, especially regarding the timeline. I just initiated a direct rollover from my old military 401k into a Platinum IRA. We're talking about a decent chunk of change, about $600k, and frankly, I'm a little antsy about how long this is going to take.

My advisor said to expect anywhere from 2-4 weeks, but I’ve seen some horror stories online about things dragging out for months. Given the current geopolitical climate, especially with what's brewing in the South China Sea and the implications for global markets, every day this money isn't in physical assets feels like a missed opportunity to hedge. Living here in Honolulu, you really get a firsthand sense of how interconnected everything is, and how quickly things can shift.

Has anyone here done a similar rollout recently, particularly with platinum or palladium? What was your actual timeline from start to finish? Did you run into any unexpected hiccups with the old 401k administrator or the new Precious Metals IRA custodian? Any tips on how to keep the process moving without badgering everyone constantly?

Also, on a related note, my advisor recommended checking out the Learning Center at https://learn.goldirablueprint.com/?forum for some extra reading on diversification strategies. It's got some solid material, particularly for those of us wanting to dig deeper into the "why" behind these moves. I’m always looking to educate myself more, especially when it comes to protecting my retirement. Thanks in advance for any insights!

Totally agree with what you're saying about the timeline. I did a similar rollover (401k to Gold IRA, not platinum, but same idea) with my old company 401k a few months back. I was told 2-3 weeks, and it ended up being almost exactly 3 weeks to the day before everything was settled and I saw the funds officially in my new account. It felt like forever waiting, especially with that "decent chunk" of change you mentioned.

Oh man, I just went through something similar! Rolled over an old 403b into a Gold IRA. My timeline was a bit of a rollercoaster. First, the old custodian seemed to drag their feet for a week, then the new one was super efficient once they actually received the funds. All told, it took about 3 weeks from my initial call to seeing the metals allocated. Hope yours is smoother!

Interesting! You mentioned a "Platinum IRA" specifically. Is there a particular reason you opted for platinum over gold, or is it a mix? Curious about your thought process there.

Congrats on getting the rollover started! That's a huge step. While platinum is definitely a compelling asset, I've seen some folks lean more heavily into gold for their precious metals IRA, especially for long-term stability. Given the current market volatility, it might be worth considering how much of your allocation is going where. Gold tends to be a pretty reliable safe haven, historically speaking. Just something to chew on!

Hey, that's a great move getting into a Platinum IRA! While waiting for the transfer, a lot of folks find it helpful to track the spot price of platinum. You can usually find real-time charts on sites like Kitco or JM Bullion. That way, you're clued in on any major movements while your funds are in transit. Good luck with the transfer!
