Rolling over my 401k to Palladium - what to expect from the timeline?

I've been seriously considering this for a while now, probably close to six months, and I think I'm finally ready to pull the trigger on rolling a good chunk of my old 401k into a Palladium IRA. I've got around $180k sitting in an old employer's plan that's just... stagnant. With all the talk of inflation and the general craziness in the market lately, the execs I support at my oil company here in Tulsa have been quietly moving some of their personal holdings into precious metals, and it's definitely gotten me thinking.

My biggest question right now is about the timeline for a rollover. I've heard some horror stories about things dragging on forever, and I really don't want to be in limbo with that much money. For those of you who've done this, especially with Palladium, what was your experience like? Did it really take weeks or even months for the funds to clear and the metal to be purchased and secured? I'm hoping to get this sorted out fairly quickly, but I also want to manage my expectations.

Also, any specific pitfalls to watch out for during the transfer process? I'm trying to be as prepared as possible. I've been doing a ton of reading, especially on that Learning Center at Gold IRA Blueprint – seriously, that site has been a lifesaver for understanding all the ins and outs. But hearing from actual people who've been through it definitely helps too. Is there anything you wish you'd known before starting the rollover?

Thanks in advance for any advice!

This mirrors what I've been seeing too. The macro environment right now is making a strong case for physical metals.

Hey, I actually just went through a very similar process a few months back, but with gold. Had about $200k in an old 401k and decided to move a good portion of it into a gold IRA. The timeline was pretty smooth for me, honestly. From the initial paperwork to the physical gold being in the vault, it was about 3-4 weeks. The biggest hold-up was actually getting the funds released from my old 401k provider. Once that cleared, the rest was quick. Good luck with your palladium!

Palladium, interesting choice! Most people on here talk about gold or silver for their IRAs. Is there a specific reason you're leaning towards palladium over those, or other precious metals?

Hey, quick thought here - you're planning to put a *good chunk* of $180k into Palladium? That's a pretty specialized metal. Have you looked into the liquidity of Palladium compared to, say, gold or silver if you ever needed to sell quickly? Just something to consider beyond the timeline of the rollover itself.

Hey, that's exciting! Six months of research sounds like you're making a well-informed decision. Just a heads up, while most rollovers are pretty smooth sailing, sometimes things can get held up by paperwork or the previous custodian.

To help manage expectations, you might find this article on the typical timeline for a precious metals IRA rollover useful: https://www.investopedia.com/gold-ira-rollover-7509531. It covers some of the potential snags and how long each stage usually takes. Good luck with the process!

I was pretty skeptical about another gold IRA forum but the tools here on GIRAB actually surprised me — the calculator alone saved me hours of spreadsheet work.

Just started my rollover process last month. The paperwork alone almost made me quit lol.
