    💠 Palladium IRA

Storage Fees for Palladium IRA - What's a decent rate?

    Key Takeaways
    • Seen a few ups and downs in the market, but having that physical asset has always made me sleep a little better at night.
    • Now, I've been looking to diversify a bit more within precious metals, and Palladium's caught my eye.
    • Thinking of shifting about 15-20% of my current 200k gold IRA value into palladium, just to spread things out a bit more.

Okay, so I've been in Gold IRAs for a while now, probably around six years or so, and it's been a solid anchor for my portfolio as a tourism business owner out here in Savannah. Seen a few ups and downs in the market, but having that physical asset has always made me sleep a little better at night. Now, I've been looking to diversify a bit more within precious metals, and Palladium's caught my eye. Thinking of shifting about 15-20% of my current 200k gold IRA value into palladium, just to spread things out a bit more.

My current Gold IRA custodian's storage fees feel pretty standard, I think it's somewhere around 0.15% for segregated storage, which isn't cheap but it's not breaking the bank. The problem is, they're not really set up for Palladium, or at least not at a competitive rate. They quoted me something considerably higher, almost double, to store Palladium separately, and it just got me thinking about other options.

So, for anyone here with a Palladium IRA, what kind of storage fees are you paying? Are there custodians that specialize in Palladium, or at least offer more competitive rates for it compared to gold or silver? I'm looking for segregated storage, obviously. Just trying to get a feel for what’s considered reasonable in the current market, especially for folks who might have a similar portfolio size. Feeling a bit out of my depth on this specific metal since most of my experience is with gold.

Also, any downsides to having my Gold and Palladium with different custodians? Logistically, it's a bit more to manage, but if the savings on storage are significant, it might be worth the extra hassle. Just want to make sure I'm not missing any hidden costs or complications when having precious metals stored in various places. Thanks in advance for any insights, always appreciate the wisdom here.

Honestly, anything north of 0.15% for segregated storage on Palladium is getting a bit rich. I’ve seen some outfits try to push 0.25%, especially in this market, but you really shouldn't be paying that. For my ~250k in pal, I’m at 0.12% with Brinks; took some negotiation but they’ll concede if you’re moving a decent chunk.

Good post, OP! Glad to hear your Gold IRA has served you well. I'm in a similar boat, been in a Gold IRA for about 8 years now. The stability it adds during uncertain times is definitely a comfort. For palladium, I've seen vault storage fees from 0.5% to 1% of the asset's value annually. Anything consistently over that 1% mark might be worth shopping around for, especially if your holdings are substantial.

Glad you posted this! I'm in a similar boat, but with silver. My tourism business in Charleston has also seen its share of ups and downs, and that physical silver IRA has been a great peace of mind. I've always thought about adding palladium but wasn't sure about the storage. Definitely curious to hear what others say about decent rates.

Hey, that's interesting you've been in Gold IRAs for so long. Savannah's a cool spot too! Quick question though, you mentioned Gold IRAs, but the title talks about Palladium. Are you looking to add palladium to an existing gold IRA, or are you starting a separate palladium-focused IRA? Just curious about the setup there.

Hey, glad the Gold IRA has been working out for you! I'm curious though, with palladium's volatility and its primary use in industrial applications (catalytic converters, etc.), are you sure it's the best fit for an IRA, especially compared to gold or even silver? While it's had some great runs, it can also crash pretty hard. Just something to consider beyond the storage fees themselves when thinking long-term.

Hey, that's awesome you've been in Gold IRAs for so long! It's definitely a smart move for portfolio stability. When it comes to palladium, storage fees can sometimes be a bit higher than gold or silver due to its rarity and specific handling requirements. Something often overlooked is checking if the custodian offers segregated storage for your palladium. It means your specific bars/coins are stored separately, not commingled with others, which can be a nice peace of mind, though it might carry a slightly higher fee.

Not directly about palladium, but since we're talking storage fees, what's a typical range for gold and silver vaulting? I just moved about $75k into a Gold IRA with Augusta Precious Metals and the annual storage fee was… well, it felt a little opaque. I'm in Nashville, so I looked into some local options but they just didn't feel as secure. Does 0.10% to 0.15% of asset value sound right for a larger, insured vault, or am I getting fleeced?

This is a good point about differentiating storage fees for different metals. For those of us who also hold some silver in our Gold IRAs, have you found any providers that charge a higher rate for silver storage compared to gold, or is it typically the same flat rate for all precious metals in a segregated vault? I'm in Richmond, and some of the local options are a bit opaque on this.

It's good to see someone else looking into palladium for their precious metals IRA. Honestly, I've stuck mostly to gold and silver for my own retirement savings, especially with my 401k rollover. For folks in Raleigh like me, securing a good deal on storage for these less common metals can be tricky, so make sure you're comparing apples to apples regarding insurance and accessibility. I've found that the tax advantages of a gold IRA still shine brightest for me, but diversification is key.

Honestly, for anyone seriously considering a Palladium IRA, the storage fees are almost a distraction. If you're banking on palladium's volatility for significant gains, a couple hundred extra basis points in storage shouldn't be your make-or-break. Focus on the metal, not the minuscule overhead. Pro tip: use the Eligibility Checker first - saved me a lot of hassle.

This is something I've been wondering about for my gold holdings too, not palladium. Just set up my Gold IRA with Lear about six months ago, and their storage fees felt a bit high compared to what I was seeing tossed around online, but I figured it was just part of the deal. What's the general consensus on a 'good' percentage-based fee for around $600k worth of gold? My account is with Delaware Depository.
