Just initiated the rollover from my old 401(k) into a Palladium IRA, and man, the waiting game is already getting to me. Last week I verbally committed to my rep, got all the paperwork signed and sent over to the custodian on Thursday. My 401(k) was sitting at about $650k, and with all the global instability – especially with China flexing more in the Pacific – I just couldn't stomach leaving so much in equities. Palladium felt like the smarter, more tangible play right now.

My representative at Augusta Precious Metals said I should expect the funds to clear and the precious metals to be purchased within 10-15 business days. That feels like an eternity when you're watching the news every day. I know they say it's normal, but coming from a military background where efficiency was everything, this standard civilian timeline always gets under my skin a bit. I'm based in Honolulu, so I'm used to things taking a little longer to get here, but this is money we're talking about!

I guess I'm just curious what other folks who've done a direct rollover experienced. Did yours really take that long? Was there anything you did to speed it up, or anything I should be looking out for? I'm trying not to be a pest to my rep, but I'm thinking of checking in mid-week next week if I don't hear anything. Part of me just wants to see that Palladium in my account, knowing it's finally out of the market's day-to-day whims.

My Gold IRA rollover from a traditional 401k took about three weeks from start to finish early this past spring. I was pretty nervous about the process, but honestly, it was smoother than I expected. What really helped put my mind at ease was using that "Gold IRA Kit" resource from Augusta Precious Metals – they have a pretty solid step-by-step guide explaining the whole transfer timeline and what to expect. Might be worth checking out if you're looking for peace of mind during your Palladium transfer.

Totally feel your pain on the waiting game! I actually did a rollover to a gold IRA a few years back, and it felt like an eternity. From signing to seeing it officially in my new account, it was probably about 3-4 weeks. Hopefully, yours moves a bit faster with palladium. Keep us updated!

Interesting! A Palladium IRA is definitely less common than gold or silver. You mentioned doing a rollover from your 401(k) – did you do a direct rollover or an indirect one?

Whoa, a Palladium IRA! That's a bold move, man. While everyone else is talking gold and silver, you're out here diversifying into the more niche PGM market. Respect.

To answer your question, though, I'm not sure how much a palladium specific IRA plays into the timeline, but my gold IRA rollover took a solid 3 weeks from first paperwork to settled assets. $650k is a chunk of change, so they're probably dotting every 'i' and crossing every 't'. Hope it works out for you!

Congrats on getting that rollover started! The waiting can definitely be a bit nerve-wracking, especially with that kind of sum. While you're waiting for the dust to settle, it might be a good idea to double-check the IRS guidelines on rollovers to make sure everything's squared away and you avoid any unexpected tax implications. Good luck, hope it all goes smoothly for you!

Totally feel this! I just did a similar thing, but with a Gold IRA. My 401(k) was a bit smaller, around $300k, and it took about three weeks from the time I sent in the final paperwork to actually seeing the funds in my new account. Hope yours is quicker!

Thank you for sharing your experience with the Palladium IRA rollover, u/InvestInPrecious. I've been considering diversifying beyond my current gold holdings for a while now, sitting on about $2 million in precious metals. Hearing about your timeline is incredibly helpful – I’d been bracing for a much longer process, so knowing it can be done within a few weeks is encouraging. Perhaps I'll finally get around to calling Augusta Precious Metals this week.

My rollover from an old 401k to a Gold IRA took about 3 weeks from start to finish. I was pretty nervous, especially watching the market volatility last summer. The custodian in Delaware was quick, but waiting for the physical metals to settle in the Raleigh depository felt like an eternity for that $75,000 worth of American Gold Eagles.

Palladium? Interesting choice. I'm almost exclusively in gold, but I diversified a small portion into silver back in 2020 after seeing the run-up on some technical indicators – sold for a nice 30% gain a year later. My last Gold IRA transfer from an old 401k, a little over $2M, took about 6 weeks from start to finish, including the physical delivery to my preferred vault in Delaware. Did you go with a specific refiner for your palladium, or just taking whatever the custodian offers?

Man, I hear you on the transfer anxiety. When I rolled over a significant chunk of my old 401k – about $300k – into a Gold IRA with Augusta Precious Metals last year, I was checking my account balances every *hour* for a solid week. It ended up taking a little over three weeks from start to finish, which felt like an eternity when I was sitting in my San Diego apartment watching the market swings. Definitely a lesson in patience!

Interesting to see so many going for Palladium. I actually went the other way a few months back, rolling my old 401k into a Gold IRA. While I see the potential in Palladium, the volatility always just felt a bit too spicy for my comfort, especially for something I consider foundational to my retirement. I'm in Boise, and honestly, the stability of gold, even with slower gains, just feels right for my $75k portfolio. I used the IRA Calculator at Gold IRA Blueprint and the projections for gold, even conservative ones, were still very reassuring for my long-term goals.

@Richard Garcia – Good on you for that silver play back in 2020! I made a similar move with platinum after watching some geopolitical tensions escalate; wasn't quite 30%, but still a solid 18% profit on a 15k allocation. For anyone considering diversification, don't just fixate on gold. Look at the industrial demand for these other precious metals – that's a huge underlying factor often overlooked on Reddit, especially for long-term growth beyond just inflation hedging. I learned that lesson the hard way myself living here in Albuquerque when I missed out on some early lithium investments.
