Finally pulled the trigger on rolling over a decent chunk of my old 401k into a Gold IRA. We're talking 7 figures here, so it wasn't a decision made lightly. Had a significant amount just sitting in an old employer's plan – you know how it goes, out of sight, out of mind for a while, just left it with Vanguard doing its thing in tech and growth stocks. But with all the market volatility, supply chain insanity, and just generally feeling like the whole system is a house of cards right now, I decided it was time to diversify HARD into something tangible. Been an entrepreneur for 20+ years, and I've always had a healthy skepticism of 'the machine,' so this felt like a natural progression.
The process itself was smoother than I anticipated, honestly. Used a local firm here in Scottsdale that specializes in this – did a ton of due diligence on them, obviously. They handled all the red tape with the old 401k custodian, which was a huge relief since I barely have time to respond to emails, let alone navigate complex financial paperwork. Took about three weeks from start to finish for the funds to clear and the physical gold (mostly American Gold Eagles and Canadian Maples, with a smaller allocation to some silver for good measure) to be securely stored. It’s a good feeling knowing a significant portion of my wealth isn't just numbers on a screen anymore, vulnerable to whatever central banks or governments decide to do next.
Anyone else here made a similar move with a substantial amount? How are you feeling about your decision now, particularly with all the chatter around inflation and potential recession? My portfolio is pretty heavily weighted in PMs already, but this Gold IRA addition just feels like an extra layer of peace of mind for the long haul. Curious to hear other folks' experiences and perspectives, especially if you're holding a significant PM allocation.
