Just finished moving a chunk of my old 401k – about $300k of it – into a Palladium IRA. Been retired from the Navy for a few years now, enjoying the Honolulu sunshine, but always got one eye on the geopolitical currents. Things over in the Indo-Pacific, especially with China and the general economic instability globally, just made me feel like pure paper assets were too exposed. Had that money sitting in a pretty vanilla mix of blue-chip stocks and bonds, and while it performed okay, the volatility these last few years was giving me heartburn.

The process itself was smoother than I expected, honestly. My custodian helped navigate the 60-day indirect rollover and made sure I didn't mess up any of the tax implications. Took a little longer than a direct transfer would, but I wanted to have a little more control and understand each step. Decided to go with Palladium because it feels like it has more industrial demand than just pure safe-haven appeal like gold, so maybe a bit more upside potential. Thinking long-term, this feels like a smart play for capital preservation and some growth against a devaluing dollar.

My wife thinks I'm being overly cautious, but after 30 years in the service, you learn to prepare for anything. Sitting on an overall portfolio of about $800k, so this Palladium chunk feels like a decent hedge without being all my eggs in one basket. Just wondering if anyone else here has made a similar move recently? Specifically with Palladium, or even Platinum? How are you feeling about your allocation now that some time has passed? Any unexpected issues or benefits you've seen?

Always appreciate hearing different perspectives, especially from folks who've been through it. Aloha!

Interesting move with the Palladium, OP! Not gonna lie, most folks I see going the precious metals IRA route tend to stick to gold or silver, maybe platinum for a bit of diversification. Palladium's definitely a more niche play. While it's had some pretty wild swings lately – massive highs and then a pretty significant correction – it's also got that industrial demand factor which could be a good thing. Just curious, what made you land on palladium specifically over the others?

Awesome to hear you got that 401k moved, especially into something like palladium! I've been eyeing it myself. I actually did a similar thing last year, but with a smaller chunk of my old 401k into silver. Had been sitting in a stagnant fund for ages and just felt like it was time to diversify. It's definitely a relief to have it in something tangible. Geopolitics always keeps things interesting, right?

Hey, that's a pretty significant move! Sounds like you're enjoying retirement, which is awesome. Quick question: what made you specifically choose palladium over other precious metals like gold or platinum for the IRA rollover?

Hey, that's a solid move, especially with the geopolitical winds blowing the way they are. Diversifying with something like palladium makes a lot of sense for long-term stability.

One thing to keep in mind, especially with precious metals, is liquidity. While palladium has its strong points, knowing how easy it is to convert back to cash if you suddenly need it is always smart. You might want to check out some resources on the typical spread and turnaround times for selling palladium vs. gold/silver in an IRA. Good luck with the Honolulu retirement!
