Rolled over 401k to Palladium, feeling good but wondering
- •Just finished moving a chunk of my old 401k – about $300k of it – into a Palladium IRA.
- •Been retired from the Navy for a few years now, enjoying the Honolulu sunshine, but always got one eye on the geopolitical currents.
- •The process itself was smoother than I expected, honestly.
Just finished moving a chunk of my old 401k – about $300k of it – into a Palladium IRA. Been retired from the Navy for a few years now, enjoying the Honolulu sunshine, but always got one eye on the geopolitical currents. Things over in the Indo-Pacific, especially with China and the general economic instability globally, just made me feel like pure paper assets were too exposed. Had that money sitting in a pretty vanilla mix of blue-chip stocks and bonds, and while it performed okay, the volatility these last few years was giving me heartburn.
The process itself was smoother than I expected, honestly. My custodian helped navigate the 60-day indirect rollover and made sure I didn't mess up any of the tax implications. Took a little longer than a direct transfer would, but I wanted to have a little more control and understand each step. Decided to go with Palladium because it feels like it has more industrial demand than just pure safe-haven appeal like gold, so maybe a bit more upside potential. Thinking long-term, this feels like a smart play for capital preservation and some growth against a devaluing dollar.
My wife thinks I'm being overly cautious, but after 30 years in the service, you learn to prepare for anything. Sitting on an overall portfolio of about $800k, so this Palladium chunk feels like a decent hedge without being all my eggs in one basket. Just wondering if anyone else here has made a similar move recently? Specifically with Palladium, or even Platinum? How are you feeling about your allocation now that some time has passed? Any unexpected issues or benefits you've seen?
Always appreciate hearing different perspectives, especially from folks who've been through it. Aloha!
