Just wanted to share my recent experience. After watching the market get absolutely hammered these last couple of years, especially with all the tech stock volatility, I finally pulled the trigger on rolling over a good chunk of my old 401(k) into a Gold IRA. I’m in SLC and honestly, felt a bit behind the curve here compared to some of my friends who've been doing this for years. Had about $350k sitting in a traditional 401(k) from an old job and decided to move about $200k of it. The idea of having some tangible assets, especially with all the inflation talk, just felt right.
The process itself wasn't too bad, though it did take a little longer than I expected – roughly three weeks from start to finish. My advisor here in Salt Lake was super helpful, walked me through all the paperwork, and even helped me decide on the mix. For the Gold IRA part, I went with mostly American Gold Eagles and some Gold Buffalos. But the interesting twist was adding a decent chunk of palladium. My advisor’s been pretty bullish on palladium for a while, especially with its industrial demand, and I figured it was a good way to diversify within the precious metals space. So a good 10% of that $200k is actually in palladium bars, which feels pretty unique.
Emotionally, it's such a relief. I was constantly checking my 401(k) balance, stressing out with every dip. Now, there's a sense of stability I haven’t felt in a while. It’s not about getting rich quick, but more about preserving what I’ve earned, especially as I start looking further down the road towards retirement. Anyone else felt this sense of calm after making a similar move?
My advisor also pointed me to this pretty cool Retirement Planner tool online that's geared towards gold IRAs. I’ve been playing around with it to project some different scenarios, and it's been pretty eye-opening visualizing how precious metals can fit into a long-term retirement strategy, especially for someone like me who still has a good 25+ years until traditional retirement age. Definitely recommend checking it out if you're on the fence or just curious about how this all fits into the bigger picture.
