Just wanted to share my experience – finally pulled the trigger and rolled over about $75k from my old 401k into a Precious Metals IRA. It's something I’d been thinking about for a while, especially with all the talk about inflation and the market feeling a bit… frothy, shall we say? My primary motivation was definitely diversification and a hedge against the general economic craziness. As a mayor in a smaller town here near Boise, I see firsthand how resilient our community is, but also how much people worry about their savings. I feel like I'm doing my part to secure my own future, but also setting an example for folks who ask me about financial advice.

The process itself was smoother than I expected. I worked with a company Gold IRA Blueprint and they guided me through the rollover, helped me pick out a good mix of gold and silver American Eagles and some Canadian Maples. I debated a bit about going heavier into silver, and I actually found this really neat tool called “Silver vs Stocks” that compares the performance over different periods. It really helped put things into perspective. For now, I'm happy with my G/S split.

Honestly, the biggest feeling right now is just a sense of relief. That money was just sitting in an old employer's plan, subject to whatever the market decided to do. Now it feels tangible, real, and something I have more direct control over. It's not about trying to get rich quick, it's about preserving purchasing power for my retirement. Does anyone else feel that same sense of peace after getting their money out of the traditional market and into something like this?

One thing I’m still mulling over, though, is palladium. I noticed this forum has a category for Palladium IRAs. Has anyone here specifically invested in palladium? What was your reasoning? I know it's got industrial uses, but the price swings seem a bit wilder than gold or silver. Just curious about others' experiences and if it's something worth considering down the line for a smaller portion of my portfolio.

Congrats on making the move! I did something really similar a few months back, though with a slightly smaller chunk. The peace of mind knowing I've got some exposure outside of the traditional market is huge. I also went with mostly gold and silver, but the palladium question is interesting. My broker mentioned it as a possibility but suggested sticking with the big two for my initial foray given its volatility. Definitely something to research more down the line though!

Hey, that's awesome you're feeling good about your decision! It's definitely a smart move to diversify, especially with how unpredictable things have been lately.

One thing to consider though, while gold and silver are often seen as the traditional safe havens, they don't *always* perform as expected during every economic downturn. Sometimes other assets, even certain stocks or real estate, can weather the storm differently. It's not a one-size-fits-all solution, but hopefully, it works out great for you!

That's awesome you got that done! $75k is a solid chunk to get diversified. When you say "Precious Metals IRA," did you go with a specific custodian or one your dealer recommended? Just curious how that part of the process went for you.
