So, Iβve been heavily diversifying out of tech stocks the last 18 months, especially with all the volatility and layoffs hitting the Bay Area. Ended up rolling over a significant chunk of my old 401k, about $350k, into a Platinum IRA. The main driver for me was really just inflation protection. Seeing prices for everything skyrocket here in SF, from groceries to insane rents (even for small apartments), made me seriously consider tangible assets.
I know gold gets all the buzz, but frankly, platinum felt like a smarter play for me long-term, especially considering its industrial demand alongside its precious metal status. My thought process was that if inflation really takes off, platinumβs utility value might give it an extra edge over just gold. Itβs been pretty stable so far, not the wild swings I was seeing in crypto or some of my previous tech holdings. Feeling a lot better about my portfolio knowing a good chunk isn't just evaporating with purchasing power.
Curious if anyone else here is using a Platinum IRA primarily for inflation defense? What are your thoughts on platinum vs. gold for this specific strategy? Any regrets or success stories? Also, for anyone else considering this, I found this Tax Calculator really helpful for figuring out the tax implications before I pulled the trigger on the rollover. Definitely saved me some headaches.
