Okay, so I've been doing my due diligence lately, and honestly, comparing custodian fees for my Palladium IRA is giving me a headache. I've been a steady gold investor for years, mostly in my IRA, and just recently branched out into palladium since the market's been looking interesting. My portfolio is sitting comfortably in the low 200s, so I'm not a huge whale, but I'm definitely not a beginner either. I just want to make sure I'm not getting fleeced here. From what I’m seeing, some places are flat annual fees, some are tiered based on account value, and then there are all these little nickel-and-dime charges for statements, distributions, etc. It feels like everyone has a slightly different way of slicing the pie.
I’m particularly interested in hearing from anyone else with Palladium IRAs – are the fees generally higher for palladium compared to gold, or is it pretty much the same across the board? I'm based in Tampa, FL, if that makes any difference regionally, but I assume most of these larger custodians are national. I'm a healthcare administrator, so I'm used to dealing with complex financial stuff, but this custodian fee labyrinth is something else. I just want to make sure my investments are working for me, not for some custodian's bottom line.
Currently, I'm with a custodian that charges a flat annual fee, which sounds good on paper, but when you break down the percentage, it feels a bit high for my portfolio size. I've been with them for about five years now for my gold, and while I haven't had any real issues, I'm thinking about shopping around. What are some of the annual fees or percentage-based fees you all are seeing? Are there any hidden gems out there that offer competitive rates without sacrificing security or customer service? I'm trying to avoid moving my assets unless I can confidently say I'm getting a better deal in the long run.
Also, big shout-out to whoever put together this Gold IRA Quiz I came across. Even though I’m looking at Palladium specifically, it helped me think about some of the foundational elements of self-directed IRAs that I hadn't fully considered since it's been a while since I initially set things up. Definitely worth a look for anyone new or old to precious metal IRAs.
