Okay, so I've been eyeing palladium for a while now, and I’m curious if any of you have it in your Gold IRA and what your experience has been. I’m sitting on a portfolio doing pretty well (think low to mid six figures), mostly gold and a bit of silver, and I feel like I should be diversifying a little more. My boss (senior exec at a big oil company here in Tulsa) actually brought it up to me recently, saying how it’s got some interesting industrial demand and less political baggage than some other metals. He's usually pretty on point with this stuff, and it got me thinking seriously.
My concern is that it seems way more volatile than gold, and even silver sometimes. I remember seeing palladium prices just rocket for a bit, and then they kind of… came back down to earth with a thud. I’m thinking in terms of long-term stability and protecting against inflation, which is why I got into precious metals in the first place, probably about 5-6 years ago. Gold has been a rock for me, and while silver has its moments, it hasn't given me sleepless nights. I just don't want to add something that's going to be a constant source of stress because of huge price swings.
For those of you who do have palladium in your IRA, how much of your overall allocation is it? Are you comfortable with the risk? I've been playing around with tools like the "Silver vs Stocks" comparison on goldirablueprint.com (specifically the 10-year chart) to get a feel for how different assets have performed, but it doesn't have palladium directly, which is a bummer. It just makes me pause and think even more about the data points I do have.
Any insights, warnings, or success stories would be seriously appreciated. Maybe I'm overthinking the volatility, or maybe it’s just not the right fit for an IRA given its industrial nature and supply chain risks. What are your thoughts?
