Okay, so I've been lurking here for a while, mostly reading your guys' posts and trying to learn. Figured it was time to share a little success of my own since I know many of you are in a similar boat, thinking about making the jump or just started like I did. For years, I kept hearing about gold as a hedge, inflation, blah blah blah, but it always felt a bit "old money" for a guy who spent his career wrangling touring schedules and studio time here in Music City. My 401k was doing fine, but after seeing the market volatility the last few years, especially when things felt a bit shaky, I decided to finally pull the trigger on a Gold IRA.
It was about three years ago when I rolled over about $60k from an old 401k into a self-directed IRA with some precious metals. Primarily gold, a little silver just to diversify. Honestly, for the first couple of years, it just… sat there. I mean, it wasn't losing money, which was a win compared to some of my tech stocks at the time, but it wasn't exactly making me shout from the rooftops either. I remember talking to my buddy, who's a session musician, telling him I was getting a little antsy, wondering if I'd made the right call. He just laughed and said, "Dude, that's what it's for, the long haul!"
Well, turns out he was right. Over the last 6-8 months, I've seen a noticeable uptick. Not talking Lamborghinis here, but my account value has definitely pushed past the $75k mark, and it just feels GOOD to see that steady climb while other parts of my portfolio are still finding their footing. It's not the rapid growth of some high-flyers, but there's a real peace of mind knowing I have this solid foundation. It truly feels like a tangible asset, not just numbers on a screen.
Anyone else feeling this positive momentum lately with their gold holdings? I'm curious if most of you are seeing similar gains or if I just got lucky with my timing. Also, for those further along, any tips on when to consider rebalancing or adding more? I'm mostly in American Gold Eagles, but always open to learning more about other options or strategies.
