Thought I'd share a bit about my silver stacking. Been at it for a good 8 years now, mostly through a Gold IRA, with a little side action in physical stuff I keep in a home safe here in Savannah. Started with maybe 25k in my IRA, mostly gold, but saw a few posts on here and some financial news when things started looking a bit dodgy (remember 2020? Rough for tourism outlets like mine) and decided to diversify into silver. It was a relatively small portion then, just dipping my toes.
My business, a small tour operator, really took a hit back then, and while we've bounced back strong, those cycles really highlight the need for tangible assets. I’ve seen my total portfolio in the IRA hit around the 180k mark recently, and about 30% of that is now in silver, gradually built up over time during dips. I'm focusing on rounds and bars mostly – aiming for weight rather than numismatic value because, honestly, I'm not a coin expert and just want the fundamental value. The goal is really wealth preservation and an inflation hedge, especially with how volatile the market seems these days. Watching the dollar erode feels like a slow burn sometimes, and having that physical backing, even if it's stored for me, just gives me a little more peace of mind.
I'm always watching the spot price, trying to add a few more ounces here and there when it dips. It’s hard to time the market perfectly, but I've had decent luck averaging in. For the physical stuff at home, I've got maybe another 5k or so in 1oz coins – just enough to feel like I could lay my hands on it immediately if things went truly downhill, though I hope it never comes to that. It's not a huge amount, but it’s a comfort. Anyone else primarily focused on silver within their IRA? Do you find the dealer premiums reasonable right now for larger purchases?
