My Palladium Play - 12 years in, 300% up

Thought I'd share my experience with precious metals, specifically palladium, since it's been a ride. I started really getting into this back in '12, after seeing some of the crap happening with the market. Real estate was always my bread and butter, still is in Aspen, but I wanted something outside of the typical stocks and bonds that felt less⦠ethereal. Knew a few guys who swore by gold, but palladium caught my eye for its industrial demand and a slightly different supply/demand dynamic.
My initial allocation to palladium was around 5% of my total investable assets at the time β think it was about $250k back then. I actually opened a Palladium IRA for a good chunk of that. The rest I held directly through a couple of dealers I trust. It wasn't always smooth sailing, saw some pretty decent dips and questioned my sanity a few times, especially when the media wasn't exactly bullish. But I stuck to my guns, kept an eye on automotive industry trends, and the move towards emission controls. My view was always long-term, not looking for quick flips like some of the meme stock clowns.
Fast forward to today, that initial $250k into palladium is now worth north of $1M. That's a roughly 300% return over 12 years, not including the smaller periodic investments I've made since then. It really hammers home the value of diversification and having some truly hard assets, especially with all the digital currency hype floating around. I still consider it a core part of my portfolio, probably closer to 8-10% now, as a hedge against inflation and market volatility.
Anyone else here made a significant play in palladium or other niche metals? What are your thoughts on its future given the EV push? I still see plenty of internal combustion engines for a while, and hybrids use their fair share too, but it's always good to hear other perspectives from people who aren't just selling you something.
