    💠 Palladium IRA

My Gold IRA rollover took longer than expected? Normal?

    Key Takeaways
    • Just did my first 401k to Gold IRA rollover, focusing on palladium for now.
    • Heard a lot about precious metals, and a Gold IRA seemed like a smart move for some long-term stability.
    • I initiated the direct rollover for about $75,000 from my old 401k just over 5 weeks ago.

Just did my first 401k to Gold IRA rollover, focusing on palladium for now. Been running my small landscaping business here in Denver for 15 years, and after watching the markets lately, I wanted to diversify beyond just stocks and bonds. Heard a lot about precious metals, and a Gold IRA seemed like a smart move for some long-term stability.

I initiated the direct rollover for about $75,000 from my old 401k just over 5 weeks ago. The company I’m working with (based out of Phoenix, seemed legit during my research) told me to expect the whole thing to be done in 3-4 weeks max. So far, the funds have landed in the new IRA, and I’ve got my palladium coins selected, but now I’m waiting for the actual physical metal to be shipped and stored. I’m feeling a little antsy that it’s taking longer than they initially quoted. Is this normal for a precious metals IRA?

Anyone else in a similar boat, especially with a palladium IRA? What were your timelines like for a direct rollover from a 401k? Just trying to get a feel for whether my expectations are off, or if I should follow up more aggressively. Thanks for any insight!

Hey, glad you're looking into diversifying! Palladium's an interesting choice. Regarding the timeline, it can definitely vary a lot depending on the custodian and the type of rollover. Sometimes direct rollovers are quicker than indirect ones, for example.

One thing that might help for future reference (or if you encounter this again) is to check the typical processing times advertised by different custodians before committing. Investopedia often has good breakdowns of the different companies and their processes, which can give you a ballpark idea of what to expect.

Hey, totally get where you're coming from. My silver IRA rollover last year felt like it dragged on forever too. I'm in construction, and after seeing some of my buddies lose their shirts in the housing crash, I knew I needed to look at other options. The Gold IRA was definitely the right move, but the timeline was a bit of a head-scratcher. Glad to hear I wasn't the only one!

Hey, that's interesting you went with palladium for now. What made you decide on palladium over gold or silver for your initial Gold IRA allocation, especially given the current market?

Hey, glad you're getting into precious metals! While gold and silver tend to be the most common, palladium is definitely an interesting choice for a Gold IRA. But yeah, the longer-than-expected rollover can sometimes happen, especially if you're dealing with a less common metal or a specific custodian. It's not always a red flag, but if it stretched out *really* long, it might be worth double-checking what caused the holdup. You'd think with things being more digital now, these processes would be lightning-fast.

Totally! I just went through a similar thing with my Gold IRA rollover, and it felt like it dragged on a bit too. I was doing a direct rollover from an old 403(b) and was expecting like, 2-3 weeks, but it ended up being closer to a month and a half. Glad to hear it's not just me!
