Just wanted to share my experience with rolling over part of my late husband’s 401k into a Gold IRA, specifically with a focus on palladium. It's been quite the journey, and frankly, a bit stressful at times, but I feel so much better now that it's done.

When David passed, it really got me thinking about securing what he worked so hard for. His old 401k felt like it was just sitting there, exposed to all the market ups and downs, and honestly, I just don't have the stomach for that kind of volatility anymore. After a lot of research (and more than a few sleepless nights reading economic articles), I decided a precious metals IRA was the way to go. The idea of holding tangible assets, especially something like palladium that feels a bit more in-demand with all the industrial uses, really resonated with me.

I ended up rolling over about $75,000. The company I worked with here in Raleigh (won't name them publicly, but happy to share in DMs if anyone is curious!) was incredibly patient. They walked me through the direct rollover process, which was a relief because I really didn't want any tax implications or penalties. It took about three weeks from start to finish for the funds to clear and the precious metals to be purchased and secured in the depository. I did opt for a mix, with a good chunk in palladium Eagles, which felt like a solid, recognizable option.

Now, seeing that account statement with actual physical assets listed, it just gives me such a sense of peace. It's not about trying to get rich quick; it's about protecting what we built. Has anyone else done a similar rollover with a focus on palladium? Any thoughts on its long-term performance compared to gold or silver?

Totally get the "phew!" feeling. I did something similar with an old 401k from a previous job, rolled it over into a Gold IRA focusing on silver actually. The paperwork was a bit of a beast, and you're right, it was stressful wondering if I was doing everything correctly. But man, the peace of mind afterwards is SO worth it. Congrats on getting it done, especially with palladium!

That's great to hear you got it sorted out!

You mentioned focusing on palladium - was there a specific reason or advantage you saw in palladium over, say, just gold or silver for your Gold IRA?

Glad to hear you're feeling better now that it's done! I've been looking into Gold IRAs too, but I'm a bit more hesitant on palladium. While it's definitely had some massive price swings, it also seems a bit less "store of value" than gold or even silver for a long-term retirement play. Hopefully, it works out great for you!
