Hard to believe it's been five years since I first opened my Gold IRA. After the 2008 crash, I really started looking for ways to diversify beyond just stocks and bonds, especially with my teacher's pension being what it is. I live here in Phoenix, and a local financial advisor I trusted really walked me through the process. I started with about $120,000 back then, mostly rollovers from an old 403(b), and I gotta say, it’s given me a lot more peace of mind.
My portfolio now is sitting around the $180,000 mark. It’s certainly not making me rich overnight, but the steady growth and the stability have been really comforting, especially with all the ups and downs we’ve seen in the broader markets lately. I sleep a lot better knowing I have a tangible asset that isn't just numbers on a screen. For someone like me, who remembers what it was like trying to live off a teacher’s salary and retirement wasn't always a sure thing, that security is invaluable.
I’ve been doing a lot more reading lately, and I'm starting to wonder if I should look into adding some palladium to my IRA. I know it's a different beast than gold, but with the industrial demand and supply constraints I've been hearing about, it seems like it could be another good hedge. Has anyone here diversified into palladium within their IRA? What was your experience? Any particular companies or custodians you found good for handling it?
It’s always a little scary to venture into something new, but I’m a big believer in continuous learning, even in retirement. Just trying to make sure my nest egg stays as secure as possible for whatever the future holds. Appreciate any insights folks might have!
