My 401k to Gold IRA transfer took way longer than expected... anyone else?

Just went through the process of rolling over a significant chunk of my old 401k into a Gold IRA, and man, the timeline was a little wild. I was expecting a few weeks, maybe a month tops, but it ended up stretching closer to two months. I’ve been investing in gold for a good 15 years now, mostly through direct purchases and some Gold ETFs, but this was my first dive into an actual Gold IRA with a substantial transfer from a 401k. I moved about $300k over, trying to diversify a bit more as I get closer to retirement. My advisor here in Dallas kept telling me it was normal, especially with the paperwork between the old 401k administrator and the new IRA custodian, but I still felt like I was in limbo for a long time.
I guess the frustration came from seeing the market 움직였 while my funds were in transit. You know how it is in the oil industry – you keep an eye on things, and a couple of weeks can make a difference. I had visions of getting it all set up quickly to take advantage of some price movements, but it just wasn't in the cards. The custodian was pretty good about updates, but the old 401k provider seemed to drag their feet for what felt like an eternity. Is this just the standard operating procedure for these kinds of rollovers?
For those of you who've done a direct rollover from a 401k to a Gold IRA, what was your experience like? Did it feel like it took too long, or was my timeline pretty standard? I’m curious if I just had an outlier experience or if this is the norm. I'm glad it's done now, and I feel good about having that physical asset backing my retirement, especially with all the economic uncertainty, but whew, that wait tested my patience.
