So I finally pulled the trigger on rolling over a chunk of my old 401k into a Gold IRA, specifically aiming for palladium. I've been running my jewelry store here in Providence for over 20 years, so I'm no stranger to precious metals, but this was a whole new beast. I had about $75k sitting stagnant in that old 401k—money that frankly, I was starting to get a little nervous about with all the market volatility. It just felt like the right time to diversify.
The whole process was a lot smoother than I anticipated, actually. I went with a company that kept popping up in my research. Took about three weeks from my initial call to actually seeing everything settled in the new account. My main advisor at the firm was pretty knowledgeable, and he didn't try to upsell me on anything ridiculous. I was really set on palladium because I've seen the demand for it in the industry, and it just feels like it has a lot of upside potential that maybe gold and silver don't have right now. Plus, being a jewelry guy, I just like the idea of it.
I'm still a bit anxious, of course. It's a significant portion of my retirement savings, and while I trust my gut on palladium, you never really know, right? My wife thinks I'm a bit crazy for not sticking to just gold and silver, but I explained my reasoning. It's not like I put my entire retirement into it, just that one portion.
Anyone else here heavily into palladium for their IRA? What's your long-term outlook? Am I being too optimistic, or is this a smart play given current market conditions? Would love to hear some other perspectives, especially from folks who’ve been in precious metals IRAs for a while.
