Home Storage vs. Depository for Palladium IRA - My 15-Year Take

I've been kicking around the idea of converting some of my gold IRA holdings to a palladium IRA lately, and it got me thinking about the whole home storage vs. depository debate again. With gold, I've always gone with the depository route, mostly for peace of mind. Been in the game for about 15 years now, started back in '09 when I really began diversifying my retirement outside of just Big Oil stocks, and I tell ya, having that physical asset secured somewhere else just feels right.
But palladium is a different beast, right? It's even more niche, and while I wouldn't ever recommend home storage for anything less than significant holdings, the thought of having direct, immediate access to some of it is appealing. I'm sitting on a portfolio between $500k and $1M, and while most of that's gold, I'm looking at maybe 5-10% in palladium. For new investors, or even just those diversifying into palladium, the logistics can feel a bit overwhelming. The whole process of getting it set up, choosing a custodian, approved metals, etc. It's a lot.
My biggest hesitation with home storage, even for a smaller portion, is the insurance aspect and the security. Sure, I could get a top-notch safe, alarm systems, the works here in Dallas, but is it truly comparable to a Class 3 vault? And then there's the IRS rules – they're pretty strict about "constructive possession" for IRA assets. For anyone serious about a gold or palladium IRA, I always push people to use that Eligibility Checker – it's a super handy tool to make sure you're qualifying correctly right from the start, especially with all the nuances around home storage.
So, for those of you with palladium IRAs, what’s your preference? Depository or are any of you brave enough to go the home storage route for a portion of your palladium? What led you to that decision? I'm curious to hear from others, especially since palladium's volatility and supply chain issues are a bit different than gold.
