Okay, so I finally pulled the trigger. After months of reading up on this stuff and feeling super antsy about my 401k just sitting there, I rolled it over into a Gold IRA. Well, technically, it's a Palladium IRA for me, but you know what I mean! This whole process has been a wild ride, and honestly, I'm still feeling a mix of relief and a tiny bit of "what have I done?!" This is definitely out of my comfort zone as a teacher, but with inflation and everything, I just felt like I needed to do something different.
I started with about $30,000 in my old 401k from a teaching gig I left a few years back – it wasn't doing much, just kinda… existing. The company I went with here in Columbus was super helpful walking me through the direct rollover process. I was so worried about screwing up the taxes or something, but they made it surprisingly simple. It took about three weeks from start to finish, which felt like forever when you're waiting for paperwork to go through! Now seeing that palladium accounted for, even if it's just digitally right now, feels pretty darn good. I know it's not a huge amount, but for me, it's a significant chunk of my retirement savings.
My biggest question now is about diversification within my metals. I've got a decent chunk in palladium now, but should I be thinking about adding some gold or silver in the future? I'm still figuring out my long-term strategy for this part of my portfolio. Has anyone else gone heavy on palladium for their first metal IRA? I'd love to hear your experiences and any tips you have for a newbie like me. Also, any Columbus folks out there with Gold/Palladium IRA recommendations or insights?
