Well, look at that. Gold smashing through all-time highs like it’s nothing. For those of us who’ve been holding physical and in our Gold IRAs for years, this is a beautiful sight. Remember all the naysayers back in the day, calling it a boomer rock collection? Who’s laughing now? My allocation in precious metals, especially gold, has been pretty heavy for the last decade, ever since I retired from the Street in 2014. My old buddies still dabbling in tech stocks are probably kicking themselves. I’ve seen enough market cycles to know that when things get squirrely, people flock to safety. And safety, in my book, is always gold.
I’m sitting here in my Upper East Side apartment, watching the news, and it's all about inflation and geopolitical instability. Honestly, it just makes me feel reaffirmed in my decision to de-risk my portfolio significantly after leaving the rat race. My Gold IRA holdings alone are well into the seven figures, and it's nice to see that number climb. The question now is, what's next? Do we see a pullback, or is this the start of a sustained rally that pushes us even higher? I'm curious what everyone else is thinking about this — any major rebalancing plans, or are we just letting it ride?
One thing I’ve been thinking more about lately, especially with these higher valuations, are my RMDs. It's a good problem to have, but it's still a calculation I need to get right. My advisor is on top of it, but I always like to double-check these things myself. I actually just found this incredibly helpful RMD Calculator at goldirablueprint.com that simplifies the whole process. It's a lifesaver for people like us with significant holdings, makes projecting those future distributions much clearer. Anyway, for those who are thinking about taking some profits or rebalancing, what's your strategy? Are you looking at other metals, or staying put in gold?
