Gold IRA for smaller portfolios - companies for under $100k?
- •Been seeing a lot of posts from folks with 7-figure portfolios talking about their gold allocations, and it got me thinking.
- •I'm a bit more modest, rocking a portfolio that's closer to the high end of mid-six figures ($750k range), and about 8% of that is in my Gold IRA.
- •Retired military here in Honolulu, seen enough global instability from this side of the Pacific to know that having some hard assets makes sense.
Been seeing a lot of posts from folks with 7-figure portfolios talking about their gold allocations, and it got me thinking. I'm a bit more modest, rocking a portfolio that's closer to the high end of mid-six figures ($750k range), and about 8% of that is in my Gold IRA. Retired military here in Honolulu, seen enough global instability from this side of the Pacific to know that having some hard assets makes sense. My question is, for those of us not moving mountains of cash, what are the best Gold IRA companies that actually cater to "smaller" investors? I'm talking entry points under $100k, maybe even under $50k.
Currently with Augusta, and they've been solid, no complaints. But their minimums are on the higher side, and honestly, when I started with them a few years back (around $60k contribution), I felt like a fairly small fish. I stuck with them because the customer service was phenomenal, and I really valued the educational aspect – they helped me understand the whole process without feeling pressured. That said, I'm always curious if there are other players out there that might be a better fit for friends or family who are looking to get started with, say, a $25k or $30k rollover from an old 401k.
My concern is obviously fees eating into a smaller investment. Are there companies known for lower annual fees or more transparent pricing for these smaller accounts? Or is it just a given that you pay a premium for liquidity and security when you're not dropping hundreds of thousands? I’m not looking to move my own account, but genuinely want to give good advice to others who are just starting out and are worried about getting fleeced by high minimums or hidden costs.
Anyone have direct experience with smaller Gold IRA accounts? What companies stood out, good or bad? Specifically looking for experiences with initial investments under $50k-$100k. Trying to avoid the usual "top 10 gold IRA companies" articles that often push firms with $50k+ minimums as their "small investor" option.
