Gold IRA for Inflation - Anyone else feeling good about their decision?

Man, between the news headlines and just seeing prices at Kroger every week, I'm so glad I finally pulled the trigger on converting some of my old 401k to a Gold IRA. Seriously, feels like every time I fill up my truck or grab groceries, I'm paying more than the last time. My accountant, who's been handling my books since my first big tour back in '98, kept telling me about it, but I was always kinda focused on other things. She finally convinced me earlier this year.
I started with about $75k getting rolled over. It wasn't a huge chunk of my retirement, but it felt right to get some diversification. I'm deep in the music industry here in Nashville, and while things are good now, you never know what's around the corner. Having a tangible asset like gold just feels more secure than watching numbers on a screen fluctuate with every new economic report. Just knowing I've got that physical metal chilling somewhere safe, instead of purely relying on stocks, is a huge mental relief.
For those of you who've been in Gold IRAs longer, how are you feeling about its performance as an inflation hedge? Are you seeing the kind of protection you hoped for? I'm still relatively new to this, maybe 8 months in, so I'm keen to hear from the veterans. What are your long-term expectations for gold's role in portfolio protection?
I know some people bash precious metals, but watching everything else go up in flames (not literally, thank god), it feels like a smart move. My biggest regret is probably not doing it sooner, especially for some of the money I had just sitting in a regular brokerage account. Anyway, just wanted to share my thoughts and see if anyone else is having similar feelings, or if there's anything I should be looking out for.
