Rolled over a chunk of my 401k into gold, feeling good about it. Anyone else?

Finally pulled the trigger and got a decent chunk of my old 401k rolled into a Gold IRA. I’ve been sitting on that 401k from my previous gig for way too long, letting it ride the ups and downs of the market. After seeing what’s been happening with inflation and just the general instability lately, it just felt like the right move for me. I’m in the ag business here in Fresno, and we deal with real assets every day – land, crops, equipment. It just makes sense to have some of my retirement savings reflecting that same kind of tangible value.
I ended up moving about $75,000 of it into physical gold. The whole process was actually smoother than I expected. I was a bit worried about the paperwork and all the hoops you hear about, but the custodian I went with was pretty good at walking me through it. I definitely feel a sense of relief knowing that a good portion of my retirement isn't just numbers on a screen anymore. It's actual, physical gold.
It's not about ditching stocks entirely, don't get me wrong. I still have investments in other areas. But this Gold IRA feels like a solid foundation, a real diversification. Especially with the amount of money being printed these days, it just gives me peace of mind. Call me old-fashioned, but I truly believe in holding something real when things get shaky.
Anyone else here made a similar move recently? What were your motivations? And for those who have had a Gold IRA for a while, any long-term insights or things to watch out for that you’ve learned along the way?
