I finally took the plunge and opened my first Gold IRA, and honestly, I'm feeling a mix of relief and… well, a lot overwhelmed. My late husband, God rest his soul, always talked about diversifying with precious metals. It was one of his big things, and I really want to protect the legacy he worked so hard for. I'm sitting on a portfolio around the $75k mark that I've been trying to grow responsibly, and Raleigh's housing market isn't exactly making me feel secure about my other assets, you know? Figured it was time to move some of that into something more tangible.
My biggest concern right now is the "what next?" I’ve got the account open, but choosing the actual metals just seems like a whole new beast. I went with gold for now because it felt like the safest bet, but I keep seeing discussions about silver too. I stumbled across this tool called "Silver vs Stocks" at goldirablueprint.com/silvervsstocks and it's fascinating to see how silver has performed against the S&P over the last 10 years. It makes me wonder if I should be considering silver for a portion of my IRA next.
For those of you who have been in this a while, what were your biggest lessons learned when you first started? Did you stick to one metal, or did you immediately diversify? I’m looking at potentially adding some more funds over the next year or two, maybe another $20k, and I want to make smart choices. I’ve heard horror stories about premiums and storage fees, too, so any advice on navigating those would be incredibly helpful.
Any and all advice from seasoned Gold IRA investors would be truly appreciated. I'm trying to be a good steward of what we built, and this is completely new territory for me.
