Well, I finally did it! After months of hemming and hawing and talking my husband's ear off, I rolled over a good chunk of my old 401k into a Gold IRA. I'm talking about $75,000 from a plan I had sitting around from a job I left years ago. Felt like it was just getting eaten alive by inflation and market jitters, especially with all the talk about interest rate hikes. As a farmer's wife here in Kansas City, I just believe in things I can touch and see, you know? Paper just feels so... ephemeral.
The process itself was honestly way smoother than I anticipated. I was dreading endless paperwork and phone calls, but the company I went with (found them through some online research and a friend's recommendation) was really helpful. They essentially handled most of the heavy lifting. I think it took about three weeks from start to finish to get the funds transferred and the metals purchased. I opted for a mix of American Gold Eagles and some Canadian Maples – patriotic and practical, I figure!
The biggest relief for me is just having that peace of mind. Knowing a portion of our retirement isn't tied directly to the whims of the stock market, especially with all the craziness going on in the world, is huge. We’re not rich by any stretch, but that $75k represents a significant chunk of our nest egg, and seeing it in something tangible just makes me feel a lot more secure about our future.
Anyone else here made the jump recently? What was your experience like? And for those of you who've had a Gold IRA for a while, any tips or things you wish you'd known early on?
