Okay, so I've been quiet on this forum for a while, mostly just lurking and soaking up the collective wisdom. But with everything going on right now, I felt compelled to share. For years, my Gold IRA was pretty much just... there. A significant portion of my portfolio, sure, but not exactly lighting the world on fire compared to some of my tech investments back in the day. I’m talking about rolling over a couple million from the sale of my last startup into this when I decided to really lean into precious metals, and for a long time, it felt like a safe, albeit somewhat sleepy, decision.
I remember friends in Dublin, OH, showing off their stock gains year after year, and while I never regretted the gold move – peace of mind is priceless – I definitely had moments of "what if?" Now, though? It’s a completely different story. The past 18 months, honestly, have been phenomenal. The value appreciation of the physical gold and silver in my IRA has been significant enough that I’m actually starting to run into a different kind of problem: capital gains. I liquidated a small portion recently, just to diversify into some other ventures, and the tax implications are real. It’s a good problem to have, don’t get me wrong, reminding me why I got into this in the first place.
This isn't a "told you so" post, more like an "it's happening!" moment. For those of you who've been patiently holding, perhaps feeling a bit antsy like I was, how are you handling the current surge? Are you rebalancing, taking profits, or just letting it ride? I’m genuinely curious what the sentiment is here, especially from others who’ve been in for the long haul. Are you seeing similar gains and, more importantly, what are your next moves?
