Finally feeling good about my Gold IRA position after all these years
- •I know there's a lot of debate on here about gold, whether it's worth it, dead money, etc.
- •I started seriously looking into this shortly after I retired from the Navy back in 2018.

I know there's a lot of debate on here about gold, whether it's worth it, dead money, etc. But I just wanted to share my perspective as someone who's had a good chunk of my retirement in a Gold IRA for a while now, and honestly, seeing the current economic climate, I'm feeling pretty vindicated. I started seriously looking into this shortly after I retired from the Navy back in 2018. Had a decent pension coming in, but wanted to shore up my savings, especially after seeing a few friends get hit hard in '08. Started with about $250k in a mix of physical gold and some silver, now it's sitting closer to $400k. Not flashy growth, but it’s been incredibly stable.
I remember some of the comments even back then, people saying it was a boomer move, or that I was missing out on tech stocks. And sure, maybe I didn't see the insane gains some folks did in the market. But while others are sweating about interest rates, inflation eating away at their savings, and the general global instability, my gold has just sat there, doing its job as a safe haven. It’s not about getting rich quick, it’s about preserving wealth, especially when everything else feels like it’s on a rollercoaster. Living here in San Diego, the cost of living isn't exactly a joke, so having that solid foundation in my portfolio really helps me sleep at night.
Now, I'm certainly not saying it's for everyone, and I still have other diversified investments. But for someone like me, a retiree who values financial security above aggressive growth, it's really proven its worth. I'm less worried about market corrections because I have that bedrock of precious metals. It’s almost like an insurance policy on my retirement.
Anyone else out there feeling good about their gold position right now given everything happening? Or did you pull out years ago and regret it? Curious to hear other folks' experiences, good or bad.
