Been seeing a lot of chatter lately about which coin is better for a precious metals IRA, specifically for palladium since that's what I'm looking at right now. Everyone's got an opinion on American Eagles vs. American Buffalos, but I'm curious to hear from folks who've actually pulled the trigger on a Palladium IRA.

I'm sitting on about $350k in my portfolio, and I'm leaning heavily into diversifying with a chunk of palladium. My family's been in bourbon for generations here in Lexington, and I appreciate a good, established product – something with a reputation. That's why the American Palladium Eagle really appeals to me. It's got that government backing, which feels like a stronger legacy play than some of the other options. On the other hand, the American Buffalo has that classic design, and folks swear by its pure gold content for those looking at gold IRAs. For palladium, though, the Eagles seem to have that extra layer of trust.

My main concern right now is premium over spot. With palladium being less common than gold or silver, I'm wondering if one typically carries a significantly higher premium than the other, or if it really just boils down to availability when you're looking to fund an IRA. And beyond that, what about buyback liquidity down the road? Say I want to take a distribution in 15-20 years – is one generally easier to offload if the market shifts?

Also, completely unrelated but I just used that Gold IRA Calculator on Gold IRA Blueprint to project out some returns if I were putting this much into gold. It's a pretty neat tool, even for just playing around with scenarios. Anyone know of a similar one specifically for palladium, or is gold the closest proxy you've found for these kinds of projections? Anyway, just looking for some insights from the veterans here. What are your thoughts on Eagles vs. Buffalos for palladium, and why?

Interesting post! Definitely a good topic to dive into. When you say "better" for a palladium IRA, are you talking purely about premium, or are there other factors like liquidity or recognition that you're considering?

Dude, I was in the exact same boat like six months ago. Seriously, the Eagle vs. Buffalo debate for a palladium IRA was driving me nuts. Ended up going with the Eagles for diversification across metals later on, but it was a tough call. Good luck with your decision!

Interesting take. While the Eagles and Buffalos are definitely the most talked about for IRAs, I wonder if we're overthinking it a bit. For palladium, specifically, the choice might be less about the "best" and more about what's readily available and has a decent premium. Sometimes the simplest option is the most efficient, especially when you're just trying to get the metal into your account.
