This is a bit concerning, especially as an investor who has some exposure to junior gold miners. Mexico, while generally a good jurisdiction for mining, does have its fair share of these kinds of labor disputes. I remember a few years back when another one of my smaller positions faced similar issues, and it really dragged out the restart for a while, hitting the stock pretty hard. It just goes to show that even with promising projects and good economics on paper, geopolitical and social risks are always there. My portfolio is a mix, but I've been trying to increase my gold exposure as a hedge against inflation for my retirement goals, and news like this always makes me reassess the risk tolerance.
I'm curious to hear what you all think. Has anyone else here invested in Orla or other miners operating in Mexico? How do you factor these kinds of potential disruptions into your investment decisions? Do you see this as a temporary blip, or could it signal deeper issues for Orla and possibly other miners in the region?
