Hey everyone,
Just read this article on Mining.com about Montage Gold, and it's got me thinking. They're expanding their West Africa footprint and the Koné first pour is approaching, which is exciting for anyone following the gold space. What really caught my eye was their mention of consolidating the Didievi project and upgrading the resource in Q3. I've been dabbling in smaller cap explorers lately, hedging against the larger market volatility, and while I don't own Montage specifically, I've got a couple of similar plays in my portfolio in other regions. The idea of resource upgrades is always a potential catalyst, and with gold showing some strength, it could be a nice tailwind.
My biggest concern with any of these West African plays, as many of you probably know from experience, is the geopolitical risk. It's something I always factor in with my retirement portfolio, especially when I’m looking at something speculative. Does anyone here have direct experience with Montage or other companies operating in that specific region of West Africa? I'm curious about the general sentiment and any boots-on-the-ground insights beyond the usual press releases. My brother-in-law was looking at some gold miners for his own portfolio, and I always tell him to dig deep into the specifics, not just the headlines.
What are your thoughts on Montage’s strategy here? Do you see this expansion as a solid move, or is it adding more risk to the equation? Always great to get some diverse perspectives from this community!
