Hey everyone,
Just read this article over on mining.com about Critical Metals ($CRML) taking full control of the Tanbreez rare earth project in Greenland – here's the link. This is really interesting news, and honestly, it makes me think a lot about diversifying my own portfolio more heavily into critical minerals. Greenland approving that transfer and them upping their ownership to 92.5% signals some serious confidence, and we all know how vital rare earths are becoming for everything from EVs to defense tech. I've been watching the rare earth space for a while, and the geopolitical aspects alone make these projects super compelling long-term, especially with China's dominance in the sector. My main goal is to secure my retirement, and I see a lot of potential in these foundational industries.
My initial thought is that this could be a really shrewd move by Critical Metals. Getting full control of a project like Tanbreez, which sounds like it has some decent reserves, positions them well. The challenge, as always, will be the permitting, extraction costs, and getting the product to market efficiently. But given the strategic importance, I wonder if we'll see more government incentives or partnerships emerge to de-risk these kinds of endeavors. I’ve personally dabbled a bit in some smaller lithium plays, and the volatility can be wild, but the underlying demand is definitely there for critical minerals.
What do you all think? Any of you have CRML in your portfolio, or are you looking at other rare earth plays? Are the risks in project development in a place like Greenland too high, or does the strategic value outweigh them in your opinion? Curious to hear everyone's perspectives, especially those of you with more experience in mining stocks!
