Okay, so I’m coming up on 5 years with my Gold IRA, and honestly, the returns have blown me away. When I first started, I was pretty nervous. I'm a small business owner here in Denver, and while I’m not exactly a high-roller, the idea of tying up a significant chunk of my retirement in something other than stocks felt… well, different. I started with about $60,000 back in 2019, mostly rolling over an old 401k from a previous job. My financial advisor at the time was skeptical, but I did my own research and figured, what the heck, diversification, right?
Fast forward to today, and my initial $60k is sitting comfortably over $95k. I know, I know, past performance doesn't guarantee future results, but that’s a pretty sweet chunk of change for just holding physical gold. The stability it’s provided through some of the market craziness we've seen, especially during those early pandemic days, has been a huge stress reducer. Honestly, I sleep better knowing a portion of my retirement isn't just paper assets.
I’m curious if anyone else is seeing similar growth or if I just got lucky with my timing. I'm definitely thinking about adding more, maybe another $10-$15k from some business profits I’ve set aside. For anyone on the fence or just starting out, I’d seriously recommend checking out the Gold IRA Quiz. It was super helpful for me when I was trying to figure out the basics of how it all works and what types of metals even qualify. It really demystified the whole process.
Are you guys keeping an eye on platinum or silver too? I've mostly stuck to gold, but I've been reading more about platinum these days. Any thoughts on diversifying within the precious metals space itself? Just trying to figure out my next moves as I approach retirement.
