Anyone else research gold IRA companies for smaller portfolios? My experience so far.
- •I had about $75k I wanted to roll over from an old traditional IRA.
- •I read probably twenty articles and comparison sites, and honestly, many of them felt like they were geared towards folks moving a few hundred grand.
- •I kept seeing the same big names, but I was worried about minimums or feeling like a small fish.
Okay, so I finally pulled the trigger on a Gold IRA back in November, and honestly, the process of finding the right company for my (relatively) small portfolio was a bit more involved than I thought it'd be. I've been in the music industry here in Nashville for years, and while I've seen plenty of ups and downs, the inflation numbers over the last year really got me thinking about diversifying beyond just stocks and my 401k. I had about $75k I wanted to roll over from an old traditional IRA.
I read probably twenty articles and comparison sites, and honestly, many of them felt like they were geared towards folks moving a few hundred grand. I kept seeing the same big names, but I was worried about minimums or feeling like a small fish. I ended up talking to representatives from three different companies: JM Bullion, Augusta Precious Metals, and one other smaller firm based out of California that I won't name because they were honestly pretty pushy. JM Bullion was great for information, but I ended up going with Augusta. No, this isn't sponsored, just my honest take.
What really sold me on Augusta was their transparency about fees and their willingness to spend time on the phone with me, even with my sub-$100k rollout. They didn't make me feel like my portfolio was insignificant, which was a real concern of mine. The whole process, from the initial calls to getting my physical gold transferred and stored, took about six weeks, which seemed reasonable. Their customer service has been pretty solid so far. I'm definitely not a high-roller, so feeling valued was a big deal.
So, for anyone else in a similar boat, looking to start a Gold IRA with maybe $50k-$100k, what companies did you seriously consider? Did anyone else have issues with minimums or feeling like smaller investors weren't a priority? I'm curious if my experience was typical, or if I just got lucky with Augusta.
