Anyone done a 401k to Gold IRA lately? Curious about timelines.
- •Been thinking a lot about the economy lately, especially with all these whispers about inflation and what not.
- •Worked in dairy for 30+ years – seen enough cycles to know things can turn on a dime.
- •My 401k is sitting pretty, around $750k last I checked, mostly in stocks and bonds.
Been thinking a lot about the economy lately, especially with all these whispers about inflation and what not. Worked in dairy for 30+ years – seen enough cycles to know things can turn on a dime. My 401k is sitting pretty, around $750k last I checked, mostly in stocks and bonds. Just feels… exposed, you know?
I’ve been reading up on Gold IRAs for a while now. The whole idea of having something tangible, something that’s been a store of value for thousands of years, really resonates. Less concerned with chasing huge growth and more with preserving what I’ve built up. Madison’s a nice town, but even here, everyone’s feeling the pinch, and I'd rather be safe than sorry with my retirement nest egg. The plan is to roll over a good chunk, probably $200k-$250k, from my old 401k into a self-directed Gold IRA. Seems like a smart move for diversification.
My big question for anyone who’s been through this recently is about the timeline. I know there are a few steps: picking a custodian, setting up the new account, liquidating assets in the old 401k, transfer, and finally, buying the metals. How long did that whole process take for you from start to finish? Did you experience any significant delays? Any unexpected hurdles or things I should be aware of that might slow it down? Just trying to get a realistic expectation so I can plan accordingly. Thanks in advance for any insights!
