5 years into my Gold IRA and feeling pretty good about it (platinum too!)

Just wanted to share my experience with my Gold IRA, since I see a lot of folks on here asking about them. I'm a doctor up here in Boston, and about five years ago, after a good amount of research (and a few late-night Reddit rabbit holes), I decided to diversify a chunk of my retirement savings into precious metals. Opened a Gold IRA and tossed in about $100k, with a small portion of that specifically in platinum because I liked the industrial demand argument. My entire portfolio is somewhere in the high six figures, so this was a solid, but not overwhelming, piece of the pie.
Fast forward to today, and honestly, I'm really pleased. My initial $100k has grown to around $140k. That's a 40% gain over five years, which isn't going to make me rich overnight, but it's consistent, tax-deferred growth in a relatively stable asset. The platinum has actually performed a little better percentage-wise than the gold, which was a pleasant surprise. Especially with all the economic uncertainty we've seen, it's reassuring to have that hedge against inflation and market volatility.
I know some people on here are skeptical about precious metals, and I get it – they don't produce income like stocks. But for me, it's about balance. Having that tangible asset in my retirement accounts makes me sleep a little better at night, knowing it's not subject to the same whims as the stock market. It’s peace of mind, really. Plus, I don't need to be actively managing it like I do some of my growth stocks.
Anyone else been in a precious metals IRA for a while? What have your experiences been like? Any Boston-area folks have recommendations for good local dealers if I ever decide to take a physical distribution down the road (way down the road, hopefully!)? Always interested to hear other perspectives.
