Wife finally on board with Gold IRA after seeing the numbers

My wife and I have always had different philosophies when it comes to investing. Bless her heart, she's always been more of a "tech stock boom" kind of person, whereas I've been eyeing the long game, particularly with physical assets. We're both in our early 50s now, and with RMDs starting to loom a bit closer for me (I'm 54, she's 52), the conversations about diversifying our retirement portfolio have gotten pretty intense lately, especially since the market has been so wonky.
I've been in the oil industry for over 30 years, and I've seen firsthand how unpredictable markets can be. That's why I started putting serious money into gold about 15 years ago. I've always had a decent chunk of our retirement, probably around $750k in total, in a Gold IRA, and it's been the most stable part of our portfolio, hands down. She, on the other hand, always saw it as "sitting in a vault, doing nothing." Tried to explain the hedge against inflation and market volatility until I was blue in the face, but it never quite clicked.
What finally got through to her wasn't my spiel, but the numbers. I was poking around online, trying to get a better handle on our future RMDs – it’s not as straightforward as it sounds with different account types. I stumbled across this RMD Calculator (from Gold IRA Blueprint, specifically) and started plugging in some scenarios. When she saw the projections, especially how a more diversified portfolio with gold could potentially impact our distribution obligations in a positive way due to its stability and different growth patterns compared to just holding stocks, something finally clicked. It wasn't about getting rich overnight; it was about protecting what we have and ensuring a stable income stream later.
Now she's actually asking me questions about gold-backed assets and even looking into how we can convert some of her traditional IRA into a Gold IRA. Never thought I'd see the day! It’s such a relief to finally be on the same page about this significant part of our retirement plan here in Dallas. Has anyone else had a similar experience convincing a skeptical spouse? What finally tilted the scales for them?
