Why I diversified my Gold IRA with silver (and why you should too?)
- •I know a lot of folks here are pure gold bugs, and believe me, I get it.
- •My late husband was the same way, always talking about gold being the only true store of wealth.
- •And for years, my Gold IRA was exactly that – all gold, pretty much just allocated bars.
I know a lot of folks here are pure gold bugs, and believe me, I get it. My late husband was the same way, always talking about gold being the only true store of wealth. And for years, my Gold IRA was exactly that – all gold, pretty much just allocated bars. It made sense to me, especially when we first opened it up after his passing a few years ago. I wanted to protect what he worked so hard for, you know?
But lately, I’ve been doing a lot more reading and just… thinking. My portfolio is sitting around the high end of $80k right now, and while gold has done well, I started feeling like I was putting all my eggs in one very shiny, yellow basket. I live here in Raleigh, and the cost of everything just keeps climbing. I began to wonder if there was more I could be doing to really fortify that legacy my husband left.
So, after some serious consideration and talking to a couple of advisors (and a lot of late-night forum scrolling, honestly), I decided to add some silver to the mix. It wasn't a huge jump – maybe 15-20% of my total metals holdings are silver now, mostly in American Silver Eagles. The idea dawned on me that silver, while more volatile, feels like it has so much more upside potential right now with all the industrial demand. It also, quite frankly, feels a bit more accessible if I ever needed to liquidate a smaller portion without touching my bigger gold holdings. Plus, it's a lot easier to imagine bartering with a few silver coins than a gold bar if things ever went really sideways, and that’s a thought that sometimes crosses my mind.
Has anyone else here diversified their precious metals IRAs beyond just gold? What was your reasoning? Are there any downsides to silver that I might not be fully considering? I’m still learning, and I want to make sure I’m making the smartest choices for the long haul.
