Okay, so I finally pulled the trigger on getting some of my retirement savings into a Gold IRA. As a real estate agent down here in Miami, I've seen enough market volatility to know it's smart to diversify, especially with a $150,000 chunk of my 401k. I'm trying to build a solid nest egg for when I eventually retire from showing houses in this heat!
I initiated the direct rollover about three weeks ago. My old 401k provider (a big, well-known one) said it would take X amount of time, and the new Gold IRA custodian said Y. Of course, X and Y don't exactly match up, and now I'm just sitting here, refreshing my accounts every few hours like a maniac. I'm getting a little antsy because I want to actually see that gold in my name and know it's safely tucked away. With all the buzz about inflation and the economy, I just don't want my money sitting in limbo for too long.
Has anyone else gone through this recently? What was your timeline like for a 401k to Gold IRA direct transfer? Did you run into any unexpected delays?
