Thinking about silver for my Gold IRA – is it smart?

Okay, so I’ve been mostly focused on gold for my IRA, as you might guess from my username. Got about $70k in there, mostly physical gold, complementing my government pension that’ll kick in full in about 15 years. Based in Albuquerque, and the cost of living keeps creeping up, so finding ways to make sure that retirement income is robust is a constant thought. I've been using that Gold vs Stocks Comparison tool GoldIRAblueprint has pretty frequently just to keep an eye on things, and for the last 10 years, gold's been looking pretty solid, making me feel good about my choices.
Lately, though, I've been seriously considering adding some silver to the mix. Not a huge chunk, maybe 10-15% of my total precious metals portfolio. My thinking is, if things really go sideways, silver still has that industrial demand that gold doesn't quite have to the same extent. So it feels like a bit of a hedge against a different kind of economic downturn. Plus, the entry price point is obviously lower, so I could get more ounces for my dollar, which is appealing.
I guess I'm a little anxious about it, just because gold feels like the "safe" play everyone talks about. Silver feels a bit more volatile, which isn't usually my style for retirement savings. Are there folks here who have successfully diversified their precious metals IRA with silver? Did it pay off, or did you regret not just sticking to good old gold? Any particular types of silver you'd recommend looking into (e.g., coins, bars, specific purities)?
Would love to hear some real-world experiences, good or bad, before I pull the trigger with my custodian. Just trying to make the savviest move for my future.
