Okay, so I've been DCAing into my Platinum IRA for about three years now. Started with a lump sum of about $20k back then, and I've been adding $500-ish a month ever since. I'm a government employee here in Albuquerque, so I've got my pension growing, but I really want to beef up my retirement nest egg with something a bit more tangible. My current total is sitting around $55k, which I'm pretty stoked about, especially with the inflation we've seen. My initial goal was really a hedge against all that, and I feel like it's done its job.
The thing is, about 15% of my portfolio is in platinum, and it’s done okay, but nothing like what gold's been doing. I've been watching platinum prices and while they haven't tanked, they also haven't exactly soared like some of the other precious metals. I'm wondering if this is a good time to rebalance. I was thinking of maybe pulling out some of the platinum and moving it into silver or even beefing up my gold holdings. I'm not looking for short-term gains, this is definitely a long-haul play to supplement my pension down the road. I've got at least another 15 years before I even think about tapping into this.
Anyone else in a similar boat with their platinum holdings? Has anyone done a significant rebalance in their precious metals IRA after a few years? What was your experience? I'm debating whether to just hold tight and see if platinum catches up, or if I should be a bit more proactive. Any thoughts, positive or negative, would be appreciated!
