Been seeing a lot of chatter lately on palladium prices, and it’s got me thinking about adding some to my IRA. I’m a pretty old-school gold bug, 15 years in the game, mostly sticking to physical gold in my self-directed IRA. Got a good chunk, probably north of $700k in the portfolio overall, and a significant portion is in gold. My wife thinks I’m a bit obsessed, but hey, it’s done well for us, especially with all the Fed printing lately.
The thing is, I’ve always been wary of other precious metals. Silver’s never quite grabbed me, and frankly, I just haven’t paid enough attention to palladium. But with the supply constraints and industrial demand, especially from catalytic converters – which is a market I understand pretty well from my oil industry days here in Dallas – it feels like it could be an interesting play. Not looking to dump all my gold, obviously, but maybe divert new contributions or rebalance a small percentage of my portfolio, say 5-10%, into palladium.
Anyone here taken the plunge with palladium in their IRA? What’s been your experience? Are you seeing it as a long-term hold or more of a tactical play? My primary concern, as always, is the stability and long-term value, similar to how I view gold as a hedge against inflation and economic uncertainty. Just wondering if palladium offers that same kind of bedrock stability, or if it’s inherently more volatile.
I know some folks diversify into platinum too, but palladium just feels more… critical, right now. Would love to hear some real-world experiences and perspectives before I dive deeper into the research. My financial advisor is cautiously optimistic, but I value the boots-on-the-ground insights from folks who are actually doing it.
