Been a long haul, but I’m finally seeing serious dividends from my Gold IRA. For years, it felt like I was holding a very shiny but very stagnant asset. Started building my position back in the late 2000s, right as I was transitioning out of the Navy after a good 30 years. Wanted something tangible outside of the market volatility, a hedge against the kind of economic headwinds I'd seen brewing from a global perspective. My financial advisor at the time, bless his pragmatic heart, initially suggested a smaller allocation, but I always went a bit heavier. Glad I trusted my gut on that one.
I’m looking at gains just shy of 30% on the precious metals portion of my portfolio just in the last two years alone. When you're talking about a seven-figure retirement nest egg, those percentages really start to add up quickly. It’s comforting, frankly. My wife and I are planning on some major renovations to the old place down here in Virginia Beach, and knowing that a significant chunk of that capital is truly protected and growing in a non-correlated asset class provides immense peace of mind. No more stressing over quarterly earnings calls or interest rate hikes from the Fed when it comes to that part of the equation.
I know some folks on this sub have been critical of gold, calling it a boomer asset or a relic. And for a long time, watching the S&P climb, I admittedly had moments of doubt. But my discipline, honed over decades of service, kept me from chasing every hot stock tip. I saw gold as a long-term strategic play, a rock in the torrent. Anyone else feel like their patience with gold is finally paying off in a meaningful way? Curious to hear some other success stories, or even if folks are still holding out hope.
