Just had to share a little wins story with you all, especially anyone on the fence about alternative investments. I've been slowly building a Platinum IRA for about seven years now, putting in what I could when I could, usually around $5k-$10k each year. Originally, I was thinking classic gold, like everyone else, but after some research and talking to a local financial advisor here in Little Rock, we decided platinum had some interesting industrial demand going for it. It felt a bit riskier at the time, but the potential upside seemed higher.
Fast forward to a couple of weeks ago, I was reviewing my portfolio and my platinum holdings have absolutely crushed it this year. I'm up over 20% on that portion alone, bringing my total platinum IRA value to just over $85,000. For context, part of my 403b is up like 7%, which is fine, but doesn't feel anywhere near as exciting. As a school principal, teaching financial literacy to our high schoolers, it's a fantastic real-world example to share about diversification and looking beyond the usual suspects. I even showed them a simplified chart (without giving away my own numbers, of course!).
I know past performance isn't a guarantee of future returns, blah blah blah, but it's such a relief to see that initial decision pay off. It really makes me feel more secure about my retirement plans, knowing I have a tangible asset that's performing well, especially with all the inflation talk lately. My initial thought was just to hedge against inflation, but this has turned into a really significant growth engine for me.
Anyone else have similar success stories with platinum or other less common metals? Or did anyone go with platinum for similar reasons and it didn't pan out so well? Always curious to hear other perspectives and experiences beyond the mainstream gold discussions.
