Just finished up a full rollover of my old 401k into a Gold IRA, and honestly, the process was way smoother than I anticipated. I've been running my logistics company here in Memphis for over 20 years, and while business has been great, I'm starting to think about succession planning in the next 5-7 years. My portfolio's sitting around $750k right now, and I've been feeling increasingly uneasy about having all my eggs in the traditional stock market basket. The volatility lately, especially with everything going on globally, just makes me nervous, ya know?
I started researching Gold IRAs about six months ago after talking to a buddy who's also an entrepreneur. He swore by it for diversification and hedging against inflation. I was initially worried about the paperwork and potential tax implications, but the company I went with (won't name them here, but can DM if anyone's curious) had a dedicated rep who walked me through everything. They handled all the communication with my old 401k administrator, and frankly, it felt pretty hands-off on my end after the initial setup calls.
The funds cleared and the physical gold was purchased and sent to the depository ( Delaware Depository) within about three weeks. It’s a huge relief to have a portion of my retirement savings in something tangible, something that historically holds its value when everything else is going haywire. I still have a good chunk of my portfolio in other investments, but this gold component just feels like a solid foundation. Anyone else done a similar rollover recently? How did you feel after pulling the trigger?
One thing I'm curious about is how frequently others in this sub re-evaluate their gold holdings within their IRA. Are you guys just letting it sit, or do you have a strategy for adjusting allocations based on market conditions? I'm new to this specific type of investment, so any insights would be appreciated. Always good to hear from other folks who are thinking about long-term wealth preservation.
