I’ve been eyeing my precious metals allocation lately and thinking about making some tweaks. Currently, I’m sitting on about 700k in my Gold IRA spread pretty heavily towards gold, probably 90/10 gold to silver. My primary goal’s always been wealth preservation, especially with all the economic uncertainty out there. As a lawyer here in Philly, I see firsthand how fast things can change, and having a solid hedge against inflation and market volatility gives me peace of mind.

Lately, though, with silver trading at what seems like a significant discount compared to gold, I’m wondering if I should rebalance. The gold-to-silver ratio just feels… off. I’m not looking to get rich quick, by any means, but a bit more upside potential wouldn't hurt, especially if silver starts catching up. I’ve always been conservative, but my current exposure to silver feels almost negligible.

My concern is liquidity. While I understand the industrial demand for silver, it’s not as universally recognized as gold for a "flight to safety" asset, at least not in the mainstream. If things truly hit the fan, will I find it as easy to liquidate a substantial silver holding as I would with gold? I’m thinking about bumping my silver allocation to maybe 20%, possibly even 25%. What’s everyone else’s current gold/silver split in their portfolios? For those of you with significant precious metals holdings (say, 500k+), how do you view silver's role?

My advisor told me 10-15% in gold is the sweet spot but I went heavier. We'll see how it plays out.

Totally get where you're coming from with the allocation tweaks. I've been wrestling with something similar myself, though on a much smaller scale! Had about 80/20 in my Roth and was thinking of nudging it to 70/30 just to diversify a bit more. It's a constant balancing act, for sure.

Hey, that's a solid chunk of change! Sounds like you've been pretty intentional with your allocation. Are you looking to keep that 90/10 split, or are you thinking about bumping up the silver a bit more, maybe 80/20 or even 70/30?

Interesting strategy, OP. While 90/10 gold to silver is a strong gold-heavy play, I've always leaned a bit more towards silver for its industrial demand and higher volatility. Gold is great for stability, but silver could offer more upside in certain market conditions, especially with the green energy push. Have you considered rebalancing to something like 70/30 or even 60/40 just to capture some of that potential silver pop?

Hey, that's a solid chunk of change you're working with! For that kind of portfolio, it might be worth looking into some of the more advanced analytics tools out there. GoldSilver.com actually has a pretty decent portfolio builder and even some specific articles on gold/silver ratios for larger holdings. Could give you some fresh perspectives beyond the usual.

Ngl I came here expecting the usual affiliate spam but the discussions are actually decent. Way better info than what I was getting from my old advisor.
