Silver stacking after cashing out of tech - what's next for ounces vs dollars?
- •My thinking was diversification, but also I really like the idea of holding something tangible beyond just gold.
- •I've been DCAing a bit weekly, nothing huge, maybe 50-100 oz every couple of weeks, depending on spot.
- •My original thesis was that silver was undervalued relative to gold, and also that industrial demand would eventually squeeze supply.
Okay, so I’m about a year and a half out from selling my stake in the company I co-founded – it was a wild ride, ended up with a decent chunk, low-mid 7 figures. Most of it went straight into a Gold IRA, with a smaller portion (around 10-15%) going into physical silver I hold locally in a safe deposit box here in Dublin. My thinking was diversification, but also I really like the idea of holding something tangible beyond just gold.
My silver buy-in was mostly in Eagles and some Canadian Maples, mainly for liquidity if things ever go south, but also some generic rounds and even a few 100oz bars for weight. I've been DCAing a bit weekly, nothing huge, maybe 50-100 oz every couple of weeks, depending on spot. My original thesis was that silver was undervalued relative to gold, and also that industrial demand would eventually squeeze supply. Saw a few talks from financial guys I respect who also lean this way. But, honestly, even with the recent inflation spikes, silver hasn't really taken off like I thought it would. It’s been… steady, I guess? Much steadier than the S&P 500, that’s for damn sure, but not the parabolic move some stackers predict.
I find myself at a bit of a crossroads. My Gold IRA is set, probably won't touch that for a while. But with silver, I’m wondering if I should double down on the stacking, especially given the current prices. Is this the calm before the storm, or am I just being overly optimistic about its potential? Part of me wants to allocate another 5% or so of my remaining liquid cash, but the other part of me sees some interesting plays in emerging tech again, though that means more risk. It's tough when you've already had a big win and you're trying to preserve wealth rather than chase another moonshot.
For those of you who've been in the silver game longer than me, especially those with similar portfolio sizes, what's your strategy looking like for the next 12-24 months? Are you still accumulating, holding steady, or even considering taking some profits if we get a decent pop? Genuinely curious about how others are navigating this, particularly with the current economic headwinds.
